What Is Somatic Therapy – And Why It Works
Listening to the Body, Not Just the Mind
In a world where many therapies focus solely on thoughts and words, somatic therapy brings us home to a deeper truth — the body holds our story, too.
Somatic therapy invites you to tune into your physical sensations, breath, posture, and emotions as they arise in the moment. It’s gentle, present-moment work that understands healing doesn’t always come through talking — sometimes, it comes through feeling.
What Makes Somatic Therapy Different?
As a Hakomi-trained psychotherapist, I use body-based awareness as a doorway into understanding what’s really happening beneath the surface.
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, numb, or stuck. These feelings often don’t come from “now” — they’re echoes of old patterns your body has learned to carry. Somatic therapy helps you gently explore those patterns with compassion and curiosity.
In a typical session, we slow things down. We might notice how your breath shifts as you talk about something painful, or where you feel tension when a particular memory arises. We give space to what’s happening — not to fix it, but to understand it. And in that understanding, healing begins.
Why Somatic Work is So Effective
We often try to “think” our way out of emotional discomfort, but the nervous system doesn’t speak in thoughts — it speaks in sensations.
Somatic therapy:
Supports nervous system regulation
Helps release held trauma and tension
Creates safety in the body
Reconnects you with your present-moment self
Supports spiritual awareness through embodied presence
It’s particularly helpful if you’ve tried talking therapy before but felt like something was still missing. Often, that “something” is the body’s wisdom.
Body as a Bridge to the Soul
Over the years, I’ve come to see the body not only as a vessel for healing but also as a gateway to deeper connection — to your spirit, your intuition, your light.
When we come into our bodies with presence, we often find we are already whole underneath the pain. The body remembers how to be at peace — it just needs permission to feel again.
